Overview

The lower Sacramento River includes the area from Knights Landing down to the Sutter/Steamboat Slough area, and passes through urban areas such as Sacramento. The river is both wide and deep in this reach as it winds and twists its way toward the delta. The confluences of two major rivers, the Feather and American, are both in this section increasing the available habitat for fish to utilize. The US Fish and Wildlife Service releases ultrasonic and coded wire tagged fish in Sacramento for their delta studies.
