Overview
The upper Sacramento River extends from just north of Battle Creek to Chico. In this area the flows tend to be strong, the riverbed wide and shallow, and the bottom composed of cobble. The upper Sacramento River has many side channels and small creeks that fish can chose to move in and out of. Monitors have been strategically placed above and below select creeks to help determine which creeks the fish are utilizing, as well as areas characterized by increased mortality. Scientists of UC Davis and NOAA/UC Santa Cruz have released fish into this reach.
